Redhill v St Joseph’s Rugeley

Redhill v St Joseph’s

On Monday evening, (13th June), the Redhill football team travelled to Rugeley to take part in a match v St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. Encouraged by a promising first game v Landywood before half term and some superb coaching from Sam from West Bromwich Albion each Friday they hoped to do well.

The first half began with few chances for either side due to excellent defending but the deadlock was broken after about ten minutes with Justin scoring to put Redhill ahead, this lead was then added to with two goals from Max making the half time score 3-0 however this would not have been the case had his brother Kacper not made a simply amazing save between the two goals and the game could have been very different had this shot from St Joseph’s gone in.

Following an inspirational half time team talk from myself Redhill went into the second half with all guns blazing. A further goal from Max, two more from Justin meant they both completed their hat-tricks. These were added to by a brace from Chad (only denied a hat-trick himself by the post after a simply fantastic volley Rooney would be proud of) and singles from George and Charlie (even later than Russia’s equaliser v England on Saturday) making the final score an incredible St Joseph’s 0 Redhill 10.

Whilst much has been made of the goal scorers mention must also be made of our defenders and in particular Leon, playing his first game for the school and who was simply outstanding reading the game and making interceptions with absolute perfection and accuracy.

Again all 8 boys were fabulous ambassadors for our school and while not all games will produce such resounding results it’s good to know they are gracious in victory as in defeat and their respect for their opponents and sportsmanship was again a credit to them. Thanks also to the four sets of parents who came along go help with lifts and offer support.
